Staff Sergeant Earl 'One Lung' McClung was a non-commissioned officer in Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, th Parachute Infantry Regiment with the st Airborne Division, United States Army during the Second World War. The Company was made famous by the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, in which McClung was portrayed by Rocky Marshall. McClung's life story was also featured in the book We Who Are Alive and Remain: Untold Stories from Band of Brothers.
Youth:
McClung was born on Colville Indian Reservation, Washington, and was 3/8 Indian. He went to school in Inchelium, Washington. McClung learned to shoot as a boy and shot his first deer when he was eight. He became an excellent marksman and this skill would prove useful during his war service with Easy Company.
Military Service:
On February 15, , McClung was drafted into the United States Army. He received basic training at Fort Wolters, Texas. He then volunteered for the paratroopers and was sent to Fort Benning, Georgia for further training. He joined Easy Company in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he instantly befriended Darrell Powers, fellow Easy Company member.

Earl McClung, 90, passed away a year ago today at his home in Pueblo West, Colorado on November 27, He was born on the Colville Indian Reservation in northeastern Washington State on April 27, Earl was part American Indian and was very proud of his heritage. Earl was a decorated combat veteran who served with the “screaming eagles” of the st Airborne Easy Company 2nd Battalion PIR. His story is highly publicized in the now famous HBO miniseries Band of Brothers.
When Pearl Harbor was attacked in , Earl was eager to enlist but was only in high school. Then in he was drafted as a 19 year old into the Army and joined the paratroopers where he was assigned to Easy Company 2nd Battalion th PIR, of the st Airborne. Earl jumped onto Normandy on D-day and reportedly killed two German soldiers as soon as his boots hit the ground. He fought briefly and bravely with the 82nd until relocating with his men of Company E. However, his heroics did not stop there. McClung campaigns with Easy Company include Normandy, Operation Market Garden, the Battle of the Bulge, and lastly overtaking Hitler’s Eagles Nest at the end of the war.
