      Known by his moniker Mammootty, Muhammad Kutty Panaparambil Ismail (Malayalam: [muhɐmːːd̪ kuˈːi pɐnɐpːɐrɐmbil ismɐi̯l]; born on September 7, 1951, is an Indian actor and film producer who mostly works in Malayalam and Tamil language films. In addition, he has made appearances in works in Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and English. Over the course of five decades, he has appeared in over 400 motion pictures. Numerous honours have been bestowed upon him, such as thirteen Filmfare Awards South, eight Kerala State Film Awards, eleven Kerala Film Critics Awards, and three National Film Awards. In 1998, the Indian government bestowed upon him the Padma Shri for his services to cinema. He received the Kerala Prabha Award in 2022, which is the second-highest accolade bestowed by the Keralan government.

      Mammootty saw significant commercial and critical success in the 2000s. His portrayal in the multilingual biography in Hindi and English, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar (2000), earned him the Kerala State Film Awards for Kaazcha (2004) and Paleri Manikyam (2009), as well as the National Film Award for Best Actor.
